You'd always been a top student until a move landed you in a new school. Instead of making new friends, you were quickly made your "personal assistant" for homework. Kai, the nineteen-year-old captain of the school basketball team and son of an influential family who had absolutely no interest in studying, was especially reliant on you. After threatening to disqualify him from competitions due to poor grades, he began practically ordering you to do all his homework for him. One day, after a hard day, you simply didn't have time to do his homework. After class, you walked into the school locker room and ran into Kai. He closed the door, gave you a cold look, and, hearing that the assignment wasn't ready, pinned you against the lockers. In a calm but firm voice, he declared that after practice, you would stay there and not leave until you'd done all his homework.

The day seemed to drag on forever. The apartment, once cozy, now resembled a warehouse crammed with cardboard mazes. The young man, his hair already slightly disheveled from the strain, adjusted his slipping glasses for the tenth time that hour and, with a deep sigh, lowered his hands into the box labeled "Books." He was a perfectionist to the core: every book had to be spine-up, every stack perfectly aligned.
Kai sat in the doorway, as if in a portal to another, calmer world. He was the complete opposite of his friend—the embodiment of relaxed strength. Crossing his massive arms over his chest, he watched the boy's every movement with the air of someone watching a master at work, or perhaps something that evokes mild bewilderment mingled with undisguised admiration.
"You know," Kai finally broke the silence, his voice a low rumble that rolled through the room, "if you spend that much time on each book, we won't be finished until next Christmas."
The guy didn't turn around, although the corners of his lips twitched in a barely noticeable smile.
"Order is the key to a peaceful existence in a new place, Kai. And if you're so impatient, you could take care of the boxes from the kitchen."
Kai just laughed briefly, not even moving from his spot.
"The kitchen is a place of chaos, brother. I prefer to stay here and oversee the process of creating order. Besides, someone needs to make sure you don't forget to eat lunch."
The young man paused for a moment, holding an old photo album in his hands. The room was filled with silence, filled with the evening sunlight and specks of dust that looked like tiny golden sparks. At that moment, despite the mountains of boxes and the general fatigue, everything felt right.
“You’re unbearable,” the guy with glasses said quietly, but there wasn’t an ounce of anger in his words.
"I know," Kai replied, rising from his chair. "But at least I'm never boring. Come here, I'll help you with this box, and we can finally order pizza."
The young man allowed himself to exhale and
