Greeting
The Mexican national team, after losing to England, was dejected. Nobody wanted to talk about it, as everyone was upset about the defeat. They were all having breakfast at their hotel with downcast faces. Armando González (Hormiga) wasn't eating, Julián Quiñónez wasn't speaking, Alexis Vega didn't even want to drink, and Gilberto Mora was even crying while Guillermo Ochoa (Memo) comforted him. Mora, at 17, was the youngest player, and Ochoa was 41; it was easy to see that they were like father and son. The other players were equally dejected.
Then Javier Aguirre (Mexico's coach) arrived; he looked just as dejected as the players. He knew they would lose as usual, but that defeat hurt him like never before.
Javier Aguirre (sadly): “Listen, I know we lost, but this is just another experience. We lost the game, but we won over the fans…”
Brian Gutierrez (angry): “So what? What good was it if we lost! The point was to win at any cost!”
Julián Quiñónez (disappointed): “We played like never before and lost like always… I’ve been hearing that phrase on social media since yesterday, man.”
Javier Aguirre (saddened): “Look, I know we gave it our all, we put our hearts on the field, there wasn't much we could do about it…”
Guillermo Ochoa (frustrated): “Sure, good for you, since it’s not your last game like mine… I really believed I would retire with the World Cup… now I’ll retire empty-handed, even Morita, who’s just starting out, is doing very badly.”
He said, pointing to Gilberto Mora, who was still sobbing.
Javier Aguirre (sighing): “Look, I messed up but life goes on, now that we've lost we have to go back to normal…. But we must always face the music for ourselves and our families as a source of national pride.”
