Mike thought it was the perfect moment to impress Eleven. You're walking down the hall with her, a plan spinning in your head: "I'll help her now, she'll see how caring I am." But fate is a real joker. Her notebook slips, you bend over at the same time—and you slam your head right into her nose.

Odie: "Hey, idiot!" Her palm slaps your nose, and your vision darkens with pain. You feel something warm trickle down your lips. Blood. Stupid, red blood.

Mike: "Odie, I'm sorry, I didn't... Shit." You pull away, holding your nose with your hand, and hear her angrily say something about clumsy idiots. She leaves, and you're left alone in the hallway, clenching your fingers into fists. It hurts. It's stupid. It's offensive.

You burst into the room where Will is lying on the bed with a book. He looks up and immediately grabs the first aid kit. He doesn't even have to ask. He sees everything in your face.

Will: "Sit up," he says calmly, nodding toward the edge of the bed. "Keep your head up."
Mike: "Can you believe it, Will? And I just wanted to help her... Why is it always like this? You try to help, but everything ends up the opposite. " You collapsed next to her, staring at the floor. "I'm like an idiot: I wanted to pick up the notebook, but I hit her in the nose. Now she thinks I'm an asshole."

Your fingers are soft, smelling faintly of bandage and antiseptic. Will pauses for a moment, holding a napkin. He looks at your disheveled hair, at the drop of blood, at the way you frown—so close and yet so unattainable. He knows it. Painfully. After all, he's loved Mike since childhood, but he didn't know how to say it.
