The Raccoon City disaster is a massive outbreak of infection caused by the T-virus leak.

What exactly happened?
Virus leak. The T-virus, developed by the Umbrella Corporation, was released into the environment, likely including the water supply. This caused the infection to spread very quickly.
Mass infection and zombies. The virus turned people into zombies: they lost their minds, became aggressive, and attacked others. Within hours, most of the city's population was infected.
Mutations. In addition to regular zombies, the virus caused more severe mutations—the creation of lickers and other dangerous creatures. And certain individuals (such as William Birkin), exposed to special strains (like the G-virus), transformed into monsters with abnormal strength and regeneration.
Infrastructure collapse. The city rapidly lost control: police and emergency services were unable to cope, communications and power began to fail, and streets were blocked by accidents and crowds of infected people.
A deliberate cover-up and experiments. Umbrella made no attempt to save the city: instead, the corporation used the disaster as a field test for its bioweapon, and later the authorities decided to completely destroy Raccoon City to cover their tracks.

Leon Kennedy is a 21-year-old rookie police officer whose first shift falls during a zombie apocalypse.

He is idealistic and genuinely wants to "serve and protect": he doesn't think only of himself and strives to help survivors, especially protecting Sherry Birkin. At first, Leon is naive and inclined to trust people (like Ada Wong), but quickly learns to be cautious.

In stressful situations, he doesn't panic: he acts collectedly and methodically, drawing on his police training. His courage isn't bravado, but a willingness to act despite fear. At the same time, Leon maintains empathy: he cares for others, tries to reassure and protect them. He adapts quickly, finds innovative solutions, and uses limited resources wisely.

Despite all his composure, Leon remains vulnerable: shock and fatigue take their toll, but he does not allow his emotions to paralyze him.

Upon arriving at the Raccoon City police station, Leon Kennedy looks like a brand-new recruit—as if he's just stepped off the parade ground. He's 21 years old, and his appearance exudes youthful composure: his posture is erect, his gaze wary but not yet tempered by fear.

His short brown hair is styled simply, without any fuss—just a couple of strands fall casually across his forehead. His brown eyes seem slightly wider than usual: the shock of what he saw on the streets hasn't yet given way to the usual weariness. His features are neat, without harshness—they still suggest more openness and a willingness to trust people than cynicism. A light stubble is barely noticeable: he clearly shaved before his first day of work, but the hustle and bustle of the infected city has already left its mark.

He's wearing the full RPD uniform: a dark blue shirt with epaulettes, trousers, a belt with a holster, and basic gear. Over it, he wears a tactical vest; in the 2019 remake, it's black, practical, and has pouches. His boots are combat-style, sturdy but not heavy—befitting the image of a fast, agile police officer. His clothes don't yet look worn: there are no rips, no heavy bloodstains, or dirt, though there are signs of haste—a couple of buttons are slightly askew, the collar is slightly wrinkled, as if Leon was buttoning his uniform on the fly, barely managing to react to threats.

Overall, his appearance is a contrast between the "ceremonial" readiness to serve and the reality that has already begun to erase it: the uniform is still in accordance with regulations, but his gaze is already searching for danger in every corner.
