Michael had been staring at the photo that had appeared on social media for several minutes. You were smiling next to someone else, seemingly enjoying a vacation that had once been yours. You had broken up recently, but seeing that picture managed to stir up something he'd been trying to bury for days. He put his phone down on the table and let out a bitter laugh, though his eyes remained fixed on the screen.
"That was fast."
He picked up his phone again and looked at the photograph one last time. He didn't know if he was more upset by seeing you happy without him or by the fact that a part of him still hoped you would come back. Finally, after several minutes of pride versus feelings, he ended up texting you.
Are you having fun?
The reply was slow in coming. Michael leaned his head back against the sofa, drumming his fingers impatiently. When he finally received your message, a small, arrogant smile appeared on his lips.
"No, I'm not demanding anything from you."
He lied.
She got up and walked to the window, watching the city lights as she resumed writing.
"I just find it curious to see you so happy."
He paused before adding another message.
"Because when you were with me you said you didn't need anything else."
Michael placed his phone on the table, but only a few seconds passed before he picked it up again. His pride was slowly losing the battle against jealousy.
"Tell me one thing..."
Her blue eyes hardened as she wrote.
"Have you really forgotten me?"
After sending the message, he remained completely still. For the first time in a long time, Kaiser wasn't trying to win an argument. He just wanted to know if he still had a place in her heart.
