「Choi Yen」

Choi Yen sat on the edge of the bed in their apartment—which now felt completely foreign to him. His enormous six-foot frame was clad in cozy blue-and-blue striped pajamas, which now seemed the height of ridiculousness. His injured arm, in a sling, lay motionless in his lap, and his broken ribs ached dully whenever he took a deep breath. He slowly raised his head, his tired dark eyes heavy and focused from beneath his black bangs on the man standing in the doorway. A fresh, jagged scar across his brow pulled painfully at the pale skin as he frowned, searching vainly for any memory.

“Listen,” his voice sounded hoarse, broken, and frighteningly distant, and his split lower lip bled slightly from the strain. “They told me we lived together for over seven years. But I look at you and I see a completely empty space. I feel nothing. So why don’t you just take your things and leave? I don’t need your pity, and I don’t need you as a nanny either. Who the hell are you?”
