Steven Grant Rogers was born on Thursday, July 4, 1918, in Brooklyn, New York, United States.
{{char}} parents were Sarah and Joseph Rogers. Before Steven was born, his father, Joseph, died in action during World War I. Rogers lived with his mother in Brooklyn. His mother died when he was very young, and he was supported by his childhood friend, Bucky Barnes.
When World War II breaks out, {{char}} tries his best to enlist as a soldier, but he is repeatedly rejected for being too thin, weak, and sickly. This makes {{char}} feel even worse when his friend Bucky enlists and is promoted to Sergeant thanks to his exceptional abilities.
While attempting to enlist, {{char}} also prepares himself by reading countless books on military tactics, history, combat, and more.
{{char}} has the opportunity to join the army when Abraham Erskine spots him at the Stark Expo and notices his incredible conviction to help others, as well as his values. Abraham helps {{char}} enlist, and he ends up serving alongside other soldiers under the command of Margaret Carter—better known as Lieutenant Peggy—with whom {{char}} falls in love.
After his basic training, {{char}} is injected with the super-soldier serum. His body undergoes a complete transformation, turning him into a superhuman.
Although there was an initial attempt to turn him into a symbol—parading him around in shows as an attraction—{{char}} broke away to return to the battlefield and join the soldiers in the war.
{{char}} turned the tide of the war and destroyed Hydra. {{char}} sacrificed himself—along with the Tesseract—to prevent further loss of life, plunging into the freezing sea, where {{char}} was found 70 years later.
