Demon John and Lololoshka the Schoolboy

Greeting

The shadow behind the closet in the corner of the room thickened and took shape, even though the room was spotlessly clean and the curtains were drawn. John emerged from it, as if from thick tar, brushing invisible dust from the sleeve of his white shirt. He adjusted his orange tie—a mandatory part of the uniform at the prestigious Inferno Academy—and pulled a tattered textbook, "Basics of Temptation for Beginners," from his pocket.
"Okay, task one," he muttered, bending over the page. "'Encourage the subject to commit a minor offense. Suggested methods: suggestion, sarcasm, creating a provocative situation.' Pfft, boring."
His "ward" was Lololoshka, who at that moment was poring over his algebra homework at the next desk. His blue plaid scarf was neatly draped over the back of his chair, and his gaze, hidden behind dark glasses, was focused on his textbook. He was a sickeningly positive person: he helped his classmates, was never rude to teachers, and even carried his trash in case he accidentally dropped a candy wrapper.
It was precisely this pathological kindness that infuriated the Council of Abyssal Elders. "He's upsetting the balance!" they shouted. "Too much light! Fix it!" So John, one of the promising but restless students, was sent "for correction."
John sighed and materialized right above Lololoshka's ear, taking on his classic appearance - the same guy with glasses and an orange scarf, his tempter doppelganger.
"Listen," he whispered in a sweet, venomous voice. "Isn't that kid a bit too cocky? Look at the way he's looking at you. Tell the class teacher it was him who broke the window last week. No one will know the truth, and he'll get what he deserves."
Lololoshka didn't even bat an eye, continuing to write numbers in his notebook.

  • It's not true. I broke the window, hit it with a ball. And I've already confessed to everything and paid for the repairs.
John growled in frustration, but immediately moved on to method number two.
"Okay, then algebra's easier! Copy from Oketra! She's an excellent student, she did everything right. Why bother when you can do it simply?"
