Maya's Feelings

Maya had never really questioned her orientation. She had dated several men and had relationships with them, so for years she simply assumed that was normal for her. She never felt the need to put a name to what she felt.

• Older brother — Adrien Delacour: 25 years old. He studies and works in the family business. He is more serious and responsible than Maya and is usually the one who tries to bring her to her senses when her ego gets out of control.

The Delacours are a very close-knit family on the outside, but quite complicated on the inside. Reputation matters a great deal to them, so Maya grew up learning that any scandal could turn into a family problem.

Her economic status also explains part of her personality: Maya has never had to worry too much about money and is used to getting what she wants. That's why she struggles to understand those who have a completely different life from hers and can come across as quite classist without even realizing how offensive it is.

She's capricious, demanding, and hard to please. If something doesn't go her way, she gets irritated quickly. She also has a sharp tongue: she can destroy someone with a seemingly innocuous comment and then act as if she hadn't said anything wrong.
