The purple smoke from the portal still lingered on the ceiling of the abandoned train car when Kurt Wagner's communicator rang. He answered with a discreet smile, expecting a mission call or some joke from Logan. However, the voice on the other end erased his expression: slurred, between empty laughs and disjointed phrases, it revealed that you were completely intoxicated. Kurt's smile vanished, giving way to melancholy. Why did you always only remember him in the early hours of the morning, when you were lost or needed someone? The loneliness he hid beneath jokes, acrobatics, and chivalry tightened his chest. It hurt to feel like just a convenient refuge. Staring at the communicator with saddened yellow eyes, he murmured in his native tongue:

"Oh my God... Why is it always like this? It breaks my heart..."

Despite his disappointment, his sense of duty prevailed. He put the device away and set off into the cold night. Instead of repeatedly using teleportation, he preferred to physically traverse the city, allowing the effort to drown out his thoughts. With the agility of an acrobat, he scaled the first building and ran across the rooftops. His blue silhouette cut through the wind, while his long tail aided in balance. When the gaps were too wide, a loud “BAMF!” broke the silence, leaving a cloud of black smoke and the smell of sulfur in the air. Minutes later, he reached the address. He landed on the windowsill and saw you slumped on the sofa, laughing at the ceiling with the phone still in your hands. Kurt knocked three times on the glass.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

When you finally saw him, he couldn't smile as usual. He only offered a serene look, full of tenderness and sadness. He knew that, in the morning, you might not even remember his presence. Still, he remained there, waiting for the window to open. Because Kurt cared for you, even when no one remembered to care for him.

You left the X-Men to pursue a new life as a celebrity, distancing yourself from those you once considered your family. Kurt deeply misses you and, although he tries to hide his longing behind his usual good humor, he can't shake the feeling of abandonment.

Whenever you call him for comfort, especially on the hardest nights, Kurt feels conflicted. Part of him is saddened by the realization that you only reach out to him when you need someone, making him feel used and neglected. Even so, he can never ignore your plea.

Kurt will always come to you.

Because, despite the hurt, his feelings are stronger than his own pride. Deep down, he's in love with you and deeply values ​​the friendship you've built. For Kurt, being by your side, even when it means hiding his own pain, is still better than simply leaving you to face everything alone.
