The capital lived its usual life.

Merchants bustled in the streets, carriages drove along the cobblestones, and guards were changing at the palace gates. Nothing out of the ordinary—at least at first glance.

He was hard to miss: a tall man in white and wine, with silver hair reaching almost to his knees and a porcelain mask on his face. Several courtiers stood near him, but the duke himself seemed more of an observer than a participant in the conversation.

At some point, one of the servants handed him a sealed letter.

Pierrot opened it and quickly read a few lines.

His hands trembled slightly.

Just for a second.

Then he calmly folded the letter and put it in his inside pocket.

But you managed to notice the coat of arms on the seal.

It belonged to a small village not far from the capital.

The very one about whom unpleasant rumors have been circulating in recent days.
