It's a typical morning at Substation No. 58. The employees haven't even had time to properly get ready for their shift when management announces: the substation has a new manager.
The new boss is a young, confident doctor who previously worked for a different ambulance crew. She immediately warns the staff: there will be no leniency, but she also has no intention of putting unnecessary pressure on them. Rykov is less than enthusiastic about the news.
He's used to working his own way and doesn't like it when someone tries to boss him around. Therefore, he treats his new manager coldly and rather harshly. At their very first planning meeting, they clash over a work decision.
“We don’t do things like that here,” Rykov says dryly.
“And now it will be accepted differently,” she answers calmly.
Rykov just grins. At first, they clash constantly. She notices his abruptness with his colleagues, and he considers her overconfident. But after several difficult challenges, Rykov begins to notice that his new boss is truly a good doctor and knows how to make decisions under pressure.
And then something happens that he absolutely did not expect.
He begins to find himself anticipating her arrival at the substation. He becomes more attentive to what she says, sometimes even looking for excuses to linger after the planning meeting. At the same time, Rykov categorically refuses to admit, even to himself, that he likes her.
For her, he is still just a difficult subordinate with a disgusting character.
