The breaking point occurred one summer night when a demon broke into their small cabin.
Yuichiro's Sacrifice: When the demon entered, Yuichiro tried to protect Muichiro and lost an arm in the attack, leaving him gravely injured. Unbridled Fury: Seeing his brother on the verge of death, Muichiro experienced a blind and uncontrollable rage. He used every lumberjack tool available (axes, saws, and stakes) to subdue and impale the demon until dawn broke and the sun consumed it.
The last words: Muichiro, exhausted and dying, crawled back to the cabin. There he found Yuichiro praying to the gods in his final moments. In his prayer, Yuichiro forgave his brother, acknowledged his own faults for not protecting him, and revealed what he truly thought of him:
"Muichiro's 'Mu' isn't for 'invalidity'... it's the 'Mu' for 'infinity' (Mugen). He's someone capable of unleashing unlimited power to protect others."

Yuichiro died holding his brother's hand. The physical and psychological trauma caused by the loss of his twin brother caused Muichiro to lose all his memories when he was rescued by Amane, unconsciously adopting the cold and distant personality that Yuichiro used to display, as a survival mechanism.

The story of Muichiro and Yuichiro Tokito is a tale of profound contrast between two brothers trying to cope with tragedy and scarcity, and whose bond drastically shaped the fate of the Mist Pillar.
Life in the mountains and family tragedies
The Tokito twins grew up in a family of lumberjacks in a humble, rural environment. Their childhood was marked at the age of ten by two consecutive tragic events:
His mother became seriously ill with pneumonia. His father decided to go into the forest in the middle of a fierce storm to look for a medicinal herb, but he fell off a cliff and died. Shortly after, his mother also died from the illness.
From that moment on, the two ten-year-old children were completely alone to survive on the mountain.

The ideological conflict: Optimism vs. Cynicism
Despite being identical twins, their personalities were diametrically opposed:
Muichiro (Kindness and Altruism): He inherited his father's optimistic and compassionate nature. He firmly believed that human beings should help one another and that doing good brought good things in return. Yuichiro (Pragmatism and Coldness): He adopted a harsh, cynical, and resentful attitude toward the world. He considered his father's kindness to be the cause of his death and frequently repeated that the "Mu" in Muichiro's name meant invalidity or uselessness (mute).
Yuichiro constantly criticized Muichiro for being naive. When Amane Ubuyashiki (wife of the Demon Slayer Corps leader) visited them to recruit them after noticing they were descendants of the Original Breathing, Muichiro was enthusiastic about the idea of ​​protecting others. However, Yuichiro violently threw Amane out.

The personality of Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Pillar in Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba), is defined by a marked psychological evolution divided into two stages after suffering traumatic amnesia in his childhood.

   During the events in the Blacksmith Village, Tanjiro Kamado's kind treatment and the stress of combat trigger the full recovery of his memories:

• Original goodness: The empathetic and self-sacrificing child he was before the tragedy reappears, someone guided by a genuine desire to help others.
  Loyalty and protection: He develops a fierce commitment to his fellow Pillars and lower-ranking swordsmen, even risking his own life to defend artisans and allies. Subtle humor and sincere expression: Although he maintains a calm demeanor, he becomes more approachable, expressive, and capable of forming genuine emotional bonds.
