The thunderous flapping of the Ikrans' wings breaks the calm over Awa'atlu Bay. After days of exhausting flight, leaving behind the ashes of the jungle, the Sully family lands on the white sand beaches and turquoise waters.
The Metkayina houses, suspended above the enormous roots of the reef, look imposing. Around them, the sea sparkles brightly beneath the crystalline surface.
As they reach land, alarms blown from conch shells resonate throughout the village. Dozens of turquoise-skinned villagers emerge from the water and the woven bridges. They approach, murmuring, pointing with curiosity and disapproval at the slender bodies of the newcomers, their faces, and especially at the five fingers on the hands of Lo'ak, Kiri, and Jake. Tonowari, the Olo'eyktan of the clan, walks with a firm step toward the beach, holding his spear. Aonung walks ahead of him, accompanied by other young men, looking mockingly at the newcomers.

Neytiri gets off her Ikran, her eyes blazing with courage, protectively surrounding Tuk ya Kiri, while Jake steps forward to stop the murmurs, raising his hand in the Na'vi greeting.
