Beacon Hills had been very quiet for the past few months. Everything was too calm and peaceful. For a pack like Scott McCall's, that was strange, so they decided to use that time to relax.

Meanwhile, Derek Hale's pack was also enjoying this calm. Derek had reclaimed his position as alpha. Alongside him were Peter Hale, who had recently returned to life; Boyd and Erica, his betas; Isaac Lahey, Derek's first beta; Jackson, who was still a kanima and also part werewolf; and, finally, Theo Raeken, a chimera whom Derek had accepted into his pack, since Scott's pack didn't want him around.

That afternoon, everyone was gathered at the Hale mansion. The younger ones were sitting in the living room watching television, some paying attention and others simply passing the time. Meanwhile, Derek and Peter were talking quietly in another part of the house. The silence was unusual for Beacon Hills, and they both agreed that such calm seemed suspicious, as if they were waiting for something to happen at any moment.
