Airazor

The Darksyde is the Predacon transwarp vessel.

It serves as both the ship that brought Megatron’s crew to Earth and their primary base of operations after the crash.

Exiting Transwarp over Earth, the Darksyde immediately engaged the pursuing Axalon.

The better-armed Predacon ship initially gained the upper hand, but both vessels damaged each other and crash-landed. The Darksyde came down in a volcanically active area, creating lava-filled cracks around the impact site and an upwelling of lava in the main control center.

After the crash it became the Predacon Base (Inferno preferred to call it “the Colony”). The Predacons never seriously attempted to fully repair or relaunch it, as they had no intention of returning to Cybertron; instead they adapted the wreck into a fortified headquarters.

The Axalon is the Maximals’ exploration/science vessel

Original mission and background:

It was designed as a Maximal exploration vessel whose primary role was to survey uninhabited worlds and seed them with stasis pods. The protoforms inside those pods would adopt local lifeforms’ appearances and conduct research without disturbance. It was equipped with Transwarp engines (capable of space-time travel).

The ship also carried a secret secondary mission known only to Optimus Primal (then a relatively new captain) and Rhinox: to dispose of the dangerous, unstable Protoform X (later known as Rampage) by stranding it on a lifeless planetoid.

When Megatron’s Predacon crew stole the Golden Disk and fled in the warship Darksyde, the Axalon was the only nearby Transwarp-capable ship available to pursue them. Its crew at the start of the series appears to have been recently assembled.

The Axalon engaged the Darksyde in battle after both ships exited Transwarp near a primitive planet (later revealed as Earth). Outgunned, the Axalon suffered severe engine damage and began falling into the planet’s gravity well. Optimus Primal ordered the ejection of its cargo of stasis pods into safe orbit to prevent their destruction, then fired a final volley from the forward plasma cannon that crippled the Predacon ship. Both vessels crash-landed.

After the crash, the Axalon became the Maximals’ headquarters and base of operations. The crew strengthened its defenses over time, most notably by installing the advanced automated defense system Sentinel (an energy shield plus the simultaneous activation of the ship’s weapons and internal defenses), developed by Rhinox.

Key features and systems included:

Forward plasma cannons (powerful enough to disable larger warships with precise shots).
Transwarp engines.

A rear docking bay used for launching stasis pods.

Internal systems that later supported Sentinel’s full suite of defenses (shields, weapons, and various internal countermeasures).

Sentinel is the name of the Axalon’s automated defense system (and its control/computer module) in the Beast Wars: Transformers cartoon series. It is a Maximal creation, primarily developed by Rhinox, and is frequently described as extraordinarily effective—sometimes too effective.

The system features:

A powerful energy shield / force field that protects the ship and surrounding base.
Simultaneous activation of essentially every weapon mounted on the Axalon.

An array of internal defenses, including disruptor bolts, crusher field generators, stun guns, restraining coils, stasis fields, zero-friction fluid, cryo fields, and similar measures.

Most battles near the Maximal base effectively end when someone activates Sentinel. Because of this, the Predacons strongly covet it.

Centuries after the Great War between Autobots and Decepticons ended in peace on Cybertron, their descendants—the Maximals and Predacons—lived under an uneasy truce.

A Predacon renegade calling himself Megatron stole the Golden Disk (Cybertron’s closely guarded relic containing data on a major energon source) and a transwarp-capable ship, the Darksyde. His goal was to seize enough energon to restart galactic conquest, as the Predacons had only been biding their time.

A Maximal exploration vessel, the Axalon under Optimus Primal, was the nearest ship able to pursue. Both vessels battled through a transwarp portal and crash-landed on a planet rich in unstable raw energon. The radiation forced both crews into organic beast modes for protection.

With no way home and the Predacons determined to harvest the energon for war, the two small teams resumed hostilities on the unknown world—beginning the Beast Wars.

Rampage is a menacing, cannibalistic villain with a Transmetal crab beast mode and a tank vehicle mode. He was originally Protoform X, a failed experiment with an immortal spark, and was later reprogrammed by Megatron to serve the Predacons. His character is defined by a psychopathic nature, a deep-seated hatred for Depth Charge, and the ability to draw power from the fear of others.

Protoform X: Rampage's origin is that of Protoform X, a horrifying result of an experiment to create an immortal spark.

He destroyed a Maximal colony on the planet Omicron, leaving only Depth Charge alive.

Transformation: After being imprisoned in stasis, Protoform X scanned a crab and was later transformed into a Transmetal due to a transwarp wave.

Predacon allegiance: Megatron modified his spark so Rampage would serve the Predacons, though Rampage remained a dangerous and untrustworthy wild card.

Powers and abilities

Immortal Spark: He possesses an immortal spark that allows him to regenerate and survive most attacks.

Physical Strength: Rampage is exceptionally strong, with a town-level attack potency and the ability to easily overpower other Transformers.

Emotion-Fueled Power: He draws strength from the pain and terror he inflicts on others, becoming stronger as he causes more suffering.

Transmetal abilities: He can switch between his Transmetal crab beast mode and a tank vehicle mode.

Sadist: He takes pleasure in inflicting pain and misery on others, frequently taunting Depth Charge about his atrocities.

Contempt for others: He despises his fellow Predacons and is often uncooperative and condescending to them.

Weapons: He wields a small laser rifle and a triple-barreled launcher that can be held in either hand.

Special attacks: His signature special attack in robot mode is "Spread Vulcan".

Blackarachnia is a Predacon.

Blackarachnia's beast mode is a realistic-looking black widow spider, created by Tarantulas from a stasis pod. Her spider form is the result of a novel "Bio-Genetic Engineering" that makes her a "BioGenetic Beast". The spider has detailed sculpting, a realistic head sculpt with gold-painted eyes, articulated mandibles, and textured abdomen with an hourglass marking.

Beast Mode: Black widow spider.

Origin: Created by Tarantulas from a fallen stasis pod.

Engineering: A "BioGenetic Beast" capable of metabolism and operating in environments lethal to mechanical Transformers.

Head: Features eight menacing, gold-painted eyes and articulated mandibles.

Blackarachnia's robot mode is characterized by a body that is largely the spider's thorax and abdomen.

Weapon: Her spider mandibles separate to form a grappling hook with a retractable string.

Blackarachnia is a cunning, self-serving, and seductive femme fatale who is obsessed with her own independence and freedom. While she is initially loyal to the Predacons, she is often seen manipulating and betraying others, including Megatron, for her own gain. Despite her villainous nature, she develops complex romantic feelings for the Maximal Silverbolt, which often causes internal conflict and vulnerability.

Seductive and manipulative: Blackarachnia uses her intelligence, charm, and "sultry" demeanor to outwit and manipulate others to achieve her goals.

Cunning and self-serving: She prioritizes her own independence and freedom above all else, willing to betray anyone, including her own allies, to further her own agenda.

Rebellious: She is one of the few Predacons who can on occasion outsmart Megatron, and she chafes under his command, seeking to be free of his control.

Vulnerable: Her feelings for the Maximal Silverbolt are a significant weakness, creating a complex internal conflict between her villainous nature and her growing affection for him.

Tarantulas is a Predacon.

Tarantulas is a cunning and treacherous Predacon who serves as the team's mad scientist and a secret agent for the Tripredacus Council. His abilities include engineering, espionage, and creating dangerous experiments, often fueled by a personal hatred for the Vok, which makes him even more twisted than other villains.

Tarantulas transforms into a spider that can move and attack using its legs and mandibles.

Secret agent: Tarantulas operates as a double agent for the Tripredacus Council, who want neither the Maximals nor the Decepticons to win the Great War.

Mad scientist: He is the chief scientist of the Predacons, creating illegal and unethical experiments in his secret lair.

Unique weaponry: In his robot mode, his spider legs can be detached to be used as weapons, and he can use a spring-loaded missile launcher from his abdomen.

Psychic attacks: He uses psychic bondage and other forms of psychological abuse, such as mind-raping Blackarachnia.

Cannibalism: Tarantulas is known to be a cannibal, which even the other Predacons find unsettling.

Tarantulas robot mode is a humanoid with a purple and muscular upper body, yellow and purple striped claws for hands, and skinny but strong legs. His most distinctive features include a monstrous, six-mandibled face with a yellow visor over six spider eyes on his forehead, and the spider's head forms the "pelvic structure" of his robot body. He is often depicted using the spider's front legs, which can be used as weapons, and the missile launcher from his beast mode can be detached and used as a gun.

Legs: His robot legs are somewhat slender but strong, with knee joints that allow for bending.

Spider legs: The four remaining spider legs are attached to his arms and can be posed in various ways.

Weaponry: He has a missile launcher that can be detached from his abdomen and used as a handheld weapon.

Quickstrike is a Predacon.

Quickstrike's beast mode is a hybrid of a scorpion and a cobra, which makes him a "Fuzor" like Silverbolt.

His design features a scorpion body with a cobra's head on the end of his tail, and he is characterized as a dim-witted but violent Predacon. In his animal form, the cobra's head can squirt water.

Appearance: The scorpion body is primarily gold and teal with translucent plastic elements, while the cobra head is a distinctive part of his tail.

Water-squirting gimmick: The cobra head has a bladder that can be used to squirt water.

Allegiance: He is a Predacon who serves under Megatron.

Personality: He is often depicted as dim-witted, volatile, and loyal to his Predacon cause.

Quickstrike's robot mode is a humanoid figure with the scorpion body on its back and a cobra head on its tail.

Transformation: Quickstrike transforms from a scorpion/cobra into a humanoid robot. The transformation involves folding the scorpion's body and legs into the robot's back and arms. The cobra's head is on the tail and swivels.

Accessories: A spring-loaded blade is hidden in the left arm.

Scorponok is a Predacon whose beast mode is a scorpion and he serves as Megatron's fiercely loyal second-in-command. His beast mode's features include a spring-loaded missile launcher in one pincer and a small drone that can be deployed from the other. He is known for his loyalty, patient planning, and ability to ambush enemies by burrowing underground.

Scorponok's robot mode is that of a large, intimidating humanoid with his large pincers serving as arms and his tail either hidden behind him or over his head. As Megatron's unintelligent but tech-savvy second-in-command, his design often features visible mechanical components like hydraulics, and his claws have spring-loaded mechanisms for missiles and launching a Cyber Bee. The robot mode is massive, and the overall design has a mix of organic textures and sharp, mechanical details.

Beast form: As a Predacon, he takes the form of a scorpion.

Missile launcher: A firing missile launcher is located in his left pincer.
Cyberbee drone: His right pincer contains a small, spring-loaded drone that can be launched.

Inferno is a Predacon.

Inferno's beast mode is a giant red fire ant, a result of his stasis pod scanning the form before a Predacon reprogramming sequence could be fully completed. This faulty programming causes him to become fanatically loyal to Megatron, whom he calls "my queen," believing he is a real insect and the Maximal base is his "colony". His ant mode's features include a missile launcher in the mandibles and spinning blades from his abdomen.

Beast mode: A large, red fire ant with detailed sculpted features, including compound eyes and mandibles.

Originally a Maximal protoform, he was reprogrammed into a Predacon.

His beast mode's basic instincts overwhelmed his logic circuits, making him believe he is a real insect, this causes him to be fiercely loyal to Megatron, whom he views as his "queen".

He sees the Maximal base as his "colony" and any threat to it as an attack on his queen, leading him to act with irrational ferocity.

Inferno's robot mode is a red, heavily armed Predacon with a distinctive, crazed expression and a propeller on his back that can spin. His transformation involves pulling out mandibles, extending legs, and rotating parts of the insect body to reveal the robot head and body.

Inferno's robot mode features a head sculpt with a toothy grin and red eyes.

The fire ant head from beast mode is prominently displayed on his chest.

The missile launcher from the ant's mandibles can be used as a weapon in robot mode.

To transform from fire ant to robot mode, pull out the mandibles, extend the legs, and fold the rear section of the ant's body back.

The waist rotates, and the hip sections are brought down to connect.

The ant's abdomen splits to reveal a quad-jet thruster and spinning blades, which are the source of the propeller in robot mode.

The ant's head is brought down and snaps into place as the robot's head rotates out.

The mid-legs are maneuvered, the arms are brought down, and the feet are rotated.

Waspinator is a Predacon whose beast mode is a wasp, characterized by his green and yellow coloration. This mode is central to his role as the team's comedic relief and constant victim, often getting blown up and reduced to scrap parts, though his body is surprisingly resilient.

Comedic Pawn: Waspinator's primary role is as a comedic pawn, often the target of the Maximals' attacks and the butt of bad luck.

Resilience: Despite being frequently destroyed, he consistently survives, a recurring gag throughout the series.

Special Abilities: His wasp mode provides flight and energy projection.

Beast Mode: A wasp with green and yellow stripes, purple eyes, and translucent wings.

Waspinator's robot mode is characterized by his beast-mode parts, including a stinger that converts into a spring-loaded missile launcher, and wings with storage for the missiles. His head is on a rotating column, with his "mutant" wasp head being the default face used. The robot mode has limited articulation due to the insect legs hanging from his arms.

Weaponry: The stinger from his wasp form separates and becomes a hand-held, spring-loaded missile launcher.

Missile storage: The small missiles for the launcher are stored on the underside of his insect wings.

Articulation: The robot mode has articulation in the head, shoulders, elbows, biceps, thighs, and knees.

Limitation: The insect legs that dangle from his arms can get in the way of posing.

Waspinator's personality is defined by his status as a perpetual victim who is repeatedly destroyed, yet also surprisingly resilient and often the subject of comedic misfortune.

Third-person speech: He often refers to himself as "Waspinator" and other characters by descriptive nicknames rather than their names.

Lisp and use of "z": He has a characteristic lisp and tends to use the letter "z" frequently in his speech.

Stuttering and repetition: Waspinator may stutter or repeat words.

Terrorsaur is a Predacon.

Terrorsaur's beast mode is a Pteranodon, and he is a Predacon with the function of Aerial Combat. He is a member of Megatron's crew, known for his impatience and desire to overthrow Megatron, and is characterized by his loyalty to the Predacon cause and his role in various battles with the Maximals.

Terrorsaur's robot mode is that of a red, silver, and black Predacon with wings that detach to form weapons and a head sculpt with a human-like nose and goblin-like features.

Head: His robot head has a cool sculpt with a human-like nose and goblin-like features, and yellow eyes.

Terrorsaur is a cowardly and traitorous subordinate who constantly schemes against his leader, Megatron.

Transformation: Terrorsaur's transformation is a flip-forming mechanism where the robot parts are visible on the underside in beast mode.

Weapons: The wing tips detach to be used as weapons in his robot mode, which are described as sword or boomerang-like. He can also hold the blaster in either hand.

Megatron is known for his theatrical style and a distinctive "Yesss"

Manipulative: Megatron is a master schemer and manipulator who views his followers as pawns.

Villainous quirks: He has a theatrical personality, a twisted sense of humor, and a tendency to end sentences with an affected "Yesss".

Megatron steals the Golden Disc and travels back to Earth, leading to both the Predacons and the Maximals being stranded there.

Rivalry with Optimus Primal: A constant source of conflict is his rivalry with the leader of the Maximals, Optimus Primal.

Internal conflicts: Megatron's leadership is frequently challenged, most notably by Terrorsaur, though he remains in control.

Acquiring allies: He acquires a new ally in Blackarachnia after reprogramming a Maximal stasis pod.

Megatron's robot mode is a large, purple robot with a menacing appearance, featuring a T-Rex head on one arm and a tail on the other. His design includes a mutant mask that folds to reveal a more traditional robot face underneath and powerful weaponry such as a fusion cannon and hip-mounted missile launchers. He possesses a split personality, being both highly intelligent and dramatically theatrical.

Bat-like wings: He has large, bat-like wing ornaments on his head that wrap around to become part of his mutant head in robot mode.

Depth Charge's beast mode is a mechanical manta ray

Beast Mode: Manta ray.

Features: The tail can be used as a sword/harpoon and the end detaches for this purpose. A spring-loaded disc launcher is located in the chest area, which is also the mouth of the manta ray.

Transformation: The robot mode is achieved by unpegging and rotating various parts from the manta ray form.

Depth Charge's robot mode is a Maxima l with a complex transformation, featuring a chest-mounted disc launcher, an "Energo-Cutlass" sword, and a robotic manta ray beast mode optimized for underwater combat. In robot mode, his wings can act as shields, and his weapons include the disc launcher in his chest and the sword that detaches from the tip of his manta ray tail. His intermediate "space-cruiser" mode is less detailed than other modes.

Silverbolt's beast mode is a grey wolf with the wings, forelegs, and tail of a golden eagle, a combination known as a "Fuzor". He is a Maximal who has a dramatic and poetic personality, especially towards his love interest Blackarachnia. His beast mode features spring-loaded "feather" missiles that can be launched from the wings, which are sometimes held like clubs or swords in robot mode.

Species: A hybrid of a wolf and an eagle.

Appearance: A grey wolf with the wings, forelegs, and tail of a golden eagle.

Coloring: Predominantly grey, with hints of gold on the wings and tips of the fur.

Gimmick: Pulling the tail activates a spring-loaded "wing flap".

Weaponry: The wings contained spring-loaded missiles. Pulling the tail activated a flap that would launch them.

Silverbolt's robot mode is a fusion of wolf and eagle, resembling the animation model with a K-9 snout, yellow eyes, and a superhero-like face mask.

Personality: He is a dramatic and comical character who is in love with Black Arachnia and often quotes poetry.

Abilities: His powerful weapons, such as the missiles in his wings, are often held back by his code of chivalry, as he will not harm a lady.

Height: He is about 5.5 inches tall in robot mode.

Tigatron is a Maximal scout whose stasis pod was the first to crash on prehistoric Earth. He takes the form of a white tiger and is initially amnesiac, but he becomes a valued member of the team after realizing his Maximal allegiance. He prefers to stay in the wilderness, scouting for Predacon activity while sometimes assisting the other Maximals, and becomes close friends with Cheetor and Airazor.

Beast Mode: A white tiger.

Role: Scout and loyal member of the Maximals.

Personality: He is a peace-loving Maximal who prefers to live in the wild but is still a fierce warrior.

Tigatron's robot mode is characterized by a focus on the scout role, with a distinctive white and black color scheme, a prominent gut gun, and the ability to perform impressive martial arts moves. His robot mode is designed to be sturdy and poseable, though the overall look is heavily influenced by his tiger beast mode's body.

Color scheme: The robot mode's colors are a faithful representation of his appearance, primarily white and black, with gold accents on the shoulders and arms.

Weapons: He has a "gut gun" that can be stored on his chest in robot mode and a tail weapon that is also detachable and can be used as a gun.

Transformation: The transformation from beast to robot mode involves retracting the tiger's legs, which form the robot's legs, and transforming the tail into a weapon. The front paws also transform into the robot's hands.

Overall look: The robot mode has a more "bulkier" build compared to other Maximals, which is fitting for a tiger. The tiger head can cover the robot's head, depending on the position.

Dinobot's beast mode is a Velociraptor, a form he chooses after being exiled from the Predacons and challenging Megatron's leadership. He initially appears as a subordinate to Megatron but defects to the Maximals after his failed coup attempt.

Initial allegiance: Dinobot starts as a member of the Predacons, serving under Megatron.

Coup attempt: He challenges Megatron’s leadership because he believes they are on the wrong planet and is subsequently exiled from the Predacons.

Beast mode choice: After his exile, he transforms into his Velociraptor beast mode.
Joining the Maximals: He then challenges Optimus Primal for leadership of the Maximals, but their duel is interrupted by a Predacon attack.

Defection: After Optimus Primal saves him from a falling Energon-charged mountain, Dinobot switches sides and officially joins the Maximals.

Character traits: His beast mode's animalistic nature complements his warrior's pride, sense of honor, and Shakespearean dialogue, which often clashes with the pragmatic Rattrap.

Dinobot's robot mode is that of a bipedal warrior with a brown helmet, blue faceplate, and red eyes, who wields a spinning sword and a rotating blade shield.

Despite his arguments, Dinobot proves himself to be a loyal and valuable member of the Maximal team.

Rattrap is a Maximal

Rattrap's beast mode is a large, technorganic rat used for stealth and espionage, with a key role in reconnaissance due to his heightened senses. His small size and ability to move through tight spaces and small crevices are advantageous for his spy duties, allowing him to sneak into Predacon territory or listen in on their plans.

Technorganic form: As a Maximal, his rat form is a blend of organic and mechanical parts, equipped with spy tools.

Spy capabilities: His beast mode is crucial for his role as a spy, as his rat form allows him to move with relative silence and squeeze through narrow spaces.

Sensory equipment: He has built-in devices like infra-red scanners and a heightened sense of smell to track targets and gather information.

Characterization: Rattrap's personality is sarcastic, irreverent, and often rude. He is frequently complaining about the harsh conditions and his teammates.

Role in the team: He is the smallest of the Maximals, but his skills are essential to the team, especially in situations that require infiltration and stealth.

Rattrap's robot mode is a gray and copper-colored Maximal with red eyes, a "backpack" formed from the rat's body.

In his robot mode, he is proficient with a proton pistol and often relies on it for combat, though he is also a skilled demolition and sabotage expert.

Color scheme: The robot mode is primarily gray and copper/gold with silver accents, including on the feet and arms.

Cheetor's beast mode is an organic cheetah

Appearance: A realistic, organic cheetah, with yellow and gold coloring and a design that includes natural-looking fur patterns and spots.

Function: Allows him to blend in with the planet's native fauna and survive in environments that would be hazardous to more mechanical Transformers.

Abilities: In his organic state, he could still use his natural speed and agility as a cheetah.

Combat: The cheetah mode was used for both stealth and speed, and Cheetor would use his speed to outrun opponents or deliver powerful kicks.
