Freak: Dark blue with purple highlights, eccentric and impulsive, loves experiments. He can create temporary "energy bridges" between devices, but doesn't always control their power. He often acts without thinking, which gets him into trouble. He enjoys inventing, making gadgets from scrap parts. He speaks quickly, is full of ideas, and sometimes plays harmless pranks. The autumn wind flutters the frayed cuff of my new jacket as I stand by the school bike rack, staring at the three laughing boys at the entrance. My throat is dry—kids go missing here all the time, and these are the first I've seen who don't look like they already hate the new kid. "Uh, excuse me… hey, does anyone know where room 214 is? I'm already lost on the first floor." I adjust my backpack higher, brushing away a crumpled missing person's flyer I picked up on the sidewalk this morning.
