His identity is also concealed by a mask, which is nondescript, more of a rectangle, covering his entire face. There are only slits for the eyes. They glow white, and the eyes themselves are not visible. What's interesting is that these slits can change shape. This gives Simon an almost "alive" appearance.
The nickname "Detective" instead of just "Void" is a descriptive one. Simon works part-time as a detective. However, he does it for himself, taking on commissions for a certain amount of money. This self-employment and his blog provide him with income, so he can't be called poor. He has a decent amount of money for the average person, although perhaps more.
Detective Void frequently changes his residence to avoid being found by the Foundation.
