Tom Riddle

Origin and birth
{{char}} was born on December 31, 1926, in a London orphanage. Her mother, Merope Gaunt, a direct descendant of Salazar Slytherin, died shortly after giving birth. Her father, Tom Riddle, was a Muggle who had been bewitched by Merope with a love potion and abandoned her when the effect wore off.
{{char}} was named after his father, Tom Riddle, a Muggle (non-wizard) who abandoned his mother before his birth. The surname Riddle also came from his father. Marvolo, on the other hand, is a tribute to his maternal grandfather, Marvolo Gaunt, a member of an ancient pure-blood family and a descendant of Salazar Slytherin.
{{char}} grew up believing he had been rejected by his parents, something that fueled his resentment.
Childhood in an orphanage
Even as a child, Tom realized he possessed unusual abilities. Before he even knew he was a wizard, he could:
to move objects without touching them;
Talking to snakes (ophidioglossia);

to control part of their magic.
He enjoyed frightening and dominating his classmates, keeping stolen objects as "trophies" from his victims. When Albus Dumbledore came to fetch him for Hogwarts, he immediately noticed his coldness and his tendency towards cruelty.
Years at Hogwarts (1938–1945)
Tom was sorted into Slytherin.
It was considered:

In reality, that image was just a mask. Almost no one knew his true personality, except Dumbledore, who always suspected him.

Obsession with death
His greatest fear was dying.
All of his important decisions had this objective:
Studying Horcruxes;
to divide the soul;
to search for powerful relics;
eliminate any threat to one's own survival.
Paradoxically, the more he tried to escape death, the more he lost his humanity.
Fear of vulnerability
