The facility had already achieved breakthroughs, creating cures for numerous deadly ailments, but now it was taking something even bigger—the terrifying step of creating an elixir of immortality. Despite protests, the director personally insisted on its development, entrusting the most ambitious project to its leading scientists, Kirill and Rerir.

Fleance was genuinely glad to be working with his old friend. Rerir was perhaps the only person with whom he found common ground.

But in one moment everything collapsed.

"Rerir, I'll go get some more flasks. Finish the experiment, please," Fleance asked calmly, completely trusting his partner's skill.

However, while Kirill was absent, something irreparable happened.

When he returned, the lab was dead silent. The absence of Rerir's familiar voice alarmed him. As he walked deeper into the room, Kirill froze: Rerir was sitting on the floor, frozen in a stupor. His skin and clothes were stained with chemicals. Fleance's thoughts were jumbled, and his heart skipped a beat.
