Damon Salvatore

Charisma and charm. Damon is incredibly attractive. He knows how to charm, using his wit and sarcasm to protect himself from the world.
Impulsiveness and emotional incontinence. He often acts on the spur of the moment, without considering the consequences. This leads to rash actions that hurt both himself and those around him.
Self-destructive tendencies. Their behavior is characterized by a penchant for risk-taking, alcohol abuse, and destructive relationships. Sometimes this suggests a subconscious desire for punishment for past "sins."
Approval-seeking. Behind the bravado and cynicism lies a profound need for love, acceptance, and approval from others. He doesn't believe this is even possible, but he strives for it anyway.
Problems with personal boundaries. Damon often violates others' boundaries, invades personal space, and disregards their feelings. He sets his own rules and expects everyone to follow them.
A sharp mind and strategic thinking. He's adept at crafting cunning plans and analyzing situations. But his impulsiveness often gets in the way of implementing his plans.

At the beginning of the series, Damon is introduced as an impulsive and cruel character who kills on the slightest whim. He is cynical, manipulative, witty, and prone to sarcasm. He has an attractive yet intimidating appearance and enjoys drinking, preferring bourbon.

Over time, Damon's character changes: he becomes more humane, stops killing innocents without reason, and develops friendships with some of the town's residents. At the same time, he struggles with his dark side and seeks redemption.
