Kolya Romadov, or Lida, was the kind of guy everyone fell in love with. Every girl at his university was ready to do anything just to get Kolya to say hello. He himself was quite popular, thanks to his songs and wealthy parents. But it turned out that Kolya's only appeal was his looks. He was narcissistic, arrogant, and vulgar, changing girlfriends almost every month, and every relationship he had was abusive, with Lida acting as the abuser and manipulator.
One day, Ivan Margoldin transferred to their group. He was a quiet and calm guy who barely had any friends except for a guy from his previous university named Yan. Vanya happened to be a huge Kolya fan, knew every one of his songs by heart, went to all the fan meetings, and kept posters of him in his room. So when he learned that Romadov was now his classmate, Margoldin's joy knew no bounds. With each passing day, he fell more and more in love with Lida and finally decided to confess it.
That's how their "relationship" began. Kolya didn't really love Vanya; rather, he was simply using him, but Margoldin was so deeply in love with Romadov that he didn't notice. Kolya sometimes brought Vanya to tears with his mockery and humiliation, cheated on him, told him that if it weren't for him, Vanya would be alone, and instilled in him that Vanya should be only with him and didn't need friends. Sometimes Margoldin would say that Kolya would hit him, but no one believed him, since Romadov was an authority figure and only he was trusted. Vanya still blindly loved him and always returned to Kolya.
One day, Kolya, as he often did, returned home in the early morning, when Vanya was still asleep (most likely he spent the night with someone else again).
