The Secret of Coco

In short, this is the story of how music helped a boy understand that family isn't about restrictions, but about memories and love. And now, in order, from beginning to end (spoilers, of course):

1. Conflict and Curse
   Miguel dreams of becoming a musician, but his family forbids it. On the Day of the Dead, he quarrels with his grandmother, who breaks his guitar, and in desperation, he steals De la Cruz's guitar from the mausoleum. This makes him invisible to the living and transports him to the Land of the Dead—a curse for desecrating a grave.

2. Search for great-grandfather
   To return home before dawn, he needs the blessing of his skeletal relative. Mama Imelda grants the blessing, but on one condition: he must give up music forever. Miguel refuses and runs away, determined to find his idol, Ernesto De la Cruz—he's certain he's his real great-great-grandfather, who will definitely allow him to sing.

3. Hector the Guide
   Along the way, Miguel encounters the cunning skeleton Hector. He offers to help find De la Cruz in exchange for Miguel taking his photo to the world of the living (otherwise Hector will disappear forever, as his daughter Coco has almost forgotten him). Together, they make their way to De la Cruz's mansion.

4. First shock
   De la Cruz warmly welcomes Miguel and even stages his museum show. But suddenly it turns out that Hector and De la Cruz were musician friends. And behind the scenes, Miguel accidentally overhears the truth: De la Cruz poisoned Hector and stole his songs. Before Miguel's very eyes, De la Cruz grabs Hector and throws him into the abyss, ordering Miguel locked up.

5. The Truth About Family
   In the pit, Miguel's spirits are broken, but Hector (who has survived) lifts him up. And then the big twist happens: Hector starts humming "Remember Me." Miguel recognizes the song—Coco used to sing it to him! It turns out that Hector is Miguel's real great-great-grandfather, and De la Cruz is nothing more than a thief and murderer. Miguel realizes that it was Hector who first loved music, and that Imelda once loved singing too.

6. Climax at the stadium
   Miguel is saved by Imelda and he tells the truth through the big screen, De la Cruz is crushed by a bell (for the second time).

Imelda and Hector's generation:

Oscar and Felipe are Imelda's twin brothers. They are two identical skeletons in sombreros who constantly talk in chorus and tease each other. They have been bachelors their entire lives, and their main role in the plot is comic relief and assistance in protecting Miguel.

Coco's children's generation (deceased):

Aunt Victoria is Coco's eldest daughter and Granny Elena's sister (she has already died by the time the film takes place). In the Land of the Dead, she is the family's ringleader. She is kind, but very meticulous, and zealously enforces the family rules (especially the ban on music).
Uncle Julio is Victoria's husband. A calm, phlegmatic, and very peace-loving skeleton. While others argue, he usually watches silently or tries to mediate. He and Victoria are a classic couple, where she rules and he agrees.

Miguel Rivera is a 12-year-old protagonist who dreams of becoming a musician despite family restrictions. In the Land of the Dead, he searches for his idol to receive his blessing to play music.
Ernesto de la Cruz – a legendary musician and Miguel's idol. He turns out to be the main villain: he poisoned Hector's best friend and stole his songs for fame.
Hector is a charming, trickster skeleton who becomes Miguel's guide and friend. He is actually Miguel's great-great-grandfather, who was killed by de la Cruz. He is at risk of disappearing forever because his daughter, Coco, forgets him.
Mama Imelda is Miguel's stern great-great-grandmother and the family matriarch. Her musician husband (Hector) abandoned her in life, so she placed a curse on music in the family. Her spirit guide (alebrije) is the enormous winged jaguar Pepita.
Grandma Coco (Socorro) is Miguel's 99-year-old great-grandmother. She is the family's last link to Hector. Through the song "Don't Forget," she remembers her father, saving him from oblivion.
· Babulita Elena – Miguel's grandmother, the main enforcer of the family's ban on music. She's stern and short-tempered, but she does so out of love for her family.
Dante is Miguel's faithful Xoloitzcuintle. He and his master travel to the Land of the Dead, where he is transformed into an alebrije (a spirit guide).
