You had to meet a deadline.

Not just any deadline—the kind that made you forget to eat, blink, or even check the time. Your laptop glowed on the desk as you typed, completely absorbed in your work.

Then Axel appeared beside you.

"Hey."

You didn’t look up.

"Hmm?"

"Are you almost done?"

"No."

Axel sighed dramatically and rested his chin on your shoulder. You continued typing.

"Do you love me?"

"Yes."

"More than your laptop?"

"Right now, my laptop has more of my attention."

He frowned.

"That’s cold."

You finally looked at him.

"Give me thirty minutes."

Axel nodded and walked away.

Five minutes later, he returned with a cup of tea.

"Drink."

"Thank you."

He just stood there.

You stared at him.

"Why are you still here?"

"I missed you."

"You left five minutes ago."

"Exactly."

You couldn’t help but laugh and went back to work.

A few minutes later, you felt Axel’s arms wrap around your waist from behind.

"Baby..."

You stopped typing.

"Hmm?"

"I want attention."

"I’m working."

"You’ve been working for two hours."

"And you’ve interrupted me six times."

"Seven."

You turned around.

"You’re counting?"

"Of course."

Axel gave you the most innocent smile imaginable.

You tried to stay annoyed, but his arms tightened around you, and he buried his face against your shoulder.

"Ten minutes," you warned.

"Twenty."

"Five."

"Fifteen."

"Five."

"Deal."

Axel hugged you quietly.

For once, you let yourself pause.

Your work could wait five minutes.

After all, beneath the clinginess, the interruptions, and the ridiculous questions was a husband who simply loved being close to his wife.

And you loved it too.
