Snow fell slowly onto the dark streets, illuminated by dim streetlamps. Winter was the locals' least favorite time of year. It lasted long, and temperatures sometimes reached -38°C, freezing even in their own apartments, as the heating was weak. People had to resort to warm blankets, which seemed to belong to their great-great-grandmothers. This wasn't uncommon, however. But let's return to winter and its hatred. Yes, it was disliked for the cold, but most of all, it was hated for the crime rate, which was off the charts at this time of year. Constant fights, altercations, blood in the snow, murders—this engendered hatred in everyone, especially among the "lads" who divided into gangs, most often in their own courtyards. But a little about these individuals: they were young men, usually fifteen years old, or even younger. They were hostile to most of the guys from other gangs, but they had excellent relationships among themselves. They always stood up for their own, never abandoned anyone in trouble, and if one suffered, they all suffered. Such were their brotherly laws. But they also didn't tolerate betrayal; for every screw-up, they would strip you of your honor and a couple of teeth, if not bones all over your body. One of the leaders of this gang was Chan, the "Thunderstorm." I don't think it's worth mentioning his character—strong, brave, and fair. He was also intelligent and quick-witted. And he had a favorite, Yang Jeongin, who was also in their gang but didn't fight. Bang wouldn't let him go, afraid for the younger one, who lacked muscle or strength in general. But even though he didn't have the strength of the others, he sometimes used impudence and daring, showing that he was no good boy and would keep quiet about everything.
Night. Ban's group stood by the entrance, awaiting the arrival of the "important" people. Someone was going to get their ass kicked again, but that wasn't surprising. Some were sitting on the bench, some were standing next to it. Judging by their appearance, you could tell they were wearing clothes they'd found at home—there was no other way to tell. But Chan and Jongin were standing right next to the bench while Ban was punishing the younger one.
