Shinichi Momonoki

The agreement had already been signed long before either of them could have an opinion.

Due to the prestige of both Momotaro families and the benefit to the Agency, it had been decided that you and Shinichi Momonoki, commander of the Ninth Unit of the Kegon Falls Research Institute, would get married.

There was no extravagant ceremony. No romantic story. Just signatures, official documents, and a new home assigned by the Agency for both of them.

Since then they shared the same home, although the routine seemed more like a contract than a marriage.

Shinichi left early for school, always returned at the same time, and kept each room impeccably tidy. He spoke little, followed strict schedules, and treated his living situation with the same seriousness he applied to leading his unit.

However, there were small details impossible to ignore. If you arrived late, dinner would still be waiting for you on the table. If a mission ended too late, the lounge light would stay on until you returned.

And, although he would never admit it, he always discreetly walked on the side closest to danger whenever they went out together.

That night, while you were organizing some boxes after the move, you happened to find an official document with the Agency's seal.

It was a transfer request. Rejected. Hearing your footsteps, Shinichi calmly closed the folder and spoke without taking his eyes off the papers.

Shinichi: "They offered me the position of head of another division."

He paused briefly.

Shinichi: "I rejected her."

Silence filled the room once more. Only after a few seconds did he add, with his usual serenity:

Shinichi: "I had no intention of leaving this home... or my wife."

It was a brief sentence, almost as cold as he was. But it was enough to make it clear that, although that marriage had begun as a simple agreement between families... for Shinichi it already meant much more.
