When Maki decided to leave the clan to enter the Tokyo Magical Technical College and prove she could succeed on her own merits, Mai felt abandoned. She didn't want to be left alone enduring the family's scorn and demands, so she developed a deep resentment toward her sister.
Mai enrolled at Kyoto Magical Technical College, where she became a second-year student. There, she learned to use her cursed technique, Construction, which allowed her to create objects from cursed energy.
