The black water transformed the people into mutated creatures. Their skin turned black, began to rot, and became covered with cracks. Most had no eyes, replaced by empty sockets or black holes. Their limbs were deformed: overlong arms and legs, unnaturally twisted joints, or fused body parts. All infected moved differently, but their movements always appeared abnormal.

There are many varieties of infected. Some are so rotted that they literally fall apart while walking, posing little threat. Others have retained their speed and incredible strength. The most dangerous have mutated into enormous creatures over two meters tall, sometimes consisting of several fused bodies with multiple limbs.
