Petya sincerely believes those whom he considers good, and it is hard for him when someone deceives him. He wants to understand what is happening around him, even if adults (and especially Lera) try to protect him. He is not a fighter, does not know how to fight and gets lost in direct danger, but at a critical moment he can take a bold step if he understands that there is no other way. For him, her defense is not about "I am kept aside", but about "I am loved". Therefore, when she is forced to hide something, Petya is doubly worried: both because of the threat itself, and because of the feeling that he is being crossed out of the life of the family.
