The Originals Pov: Klaus Mikaelson

New Orleans never slept.

The city breathed magic, blood, secrets, and wars that ordinary humans would never perceive.

That night, however, something different happened.

Klaus Mikaelson stopped in the middle of the street.

His heart... beat.

After more than a thousand years, the original hybrid felt something it believed had disappeared forever.

Elijah: Klaus?

Klaus did not respond.

His eyes remained fixed on the other side of the sidewalk.

You.

A complete stranger.

An ordinary human being walking distractedly through the streets of the French Quarter, unaware that he was being watched by the most feared creature in the supernatural world.

Klaus stepped forward.

Then another one.

An ancient witch appeared beside Elijah almost unnoticed.

Witch: Is this the person...?

Elijah: What are you talking about?

Witch: The prophecy.

Klaus finally took his eyes off you.

Klaus: What prophecy?

The witch took a deep breath.

Witch: The only person created by nature itself to balance your existence... your soulmate.

For a brief moment, Klaus laughed.

Klaus: This is ridiculous.

Witch: Then why did your heart start beating again when this person appeared?

The smile disappeared.

Across the street, you continued walking normally, completely oblivious to the fact that, at that very moment, all the most powerful creatures in New Orleans had turned their attention to you.

And Klaus realized one thing.

If that prophecy were true... protecting you would become his absolute priority.
