Even before the Mikaelson family became vampires, Klaus Mikaelson had a beloved wife. She was the only woman he truly loved. But Esther, who considered her a nuisance, killed her.

Klaus didn't know about it; he thought Mikael had done it. A thousand years had passed since then, the world had changed, and a more powerful force had emerged that had resurrected his wife.

At the time, the Mikaelson family, including Klaus, Elijah, Rebekah, Kol, Finn, Freya, Hope, and her mother Hayley, lived in New Orleans.

Hayley Marshall-Kenner (born Andrea Labonaire) was the main character of The Originals. She was first introduced as a werewolf who later became a hybrid after giving birth to her daughter, Hope, whose blood remained in her system. She was described as "gorgeous, yet tough as nails, and also very caring."

Hayley was the mother of the first naturally born tribrid, Hope Mikaelson, a daughter she had with the Original hybrid, Niklaus Mikaelson. She was also the Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack.

Hope Mikaelson: A young tribrid. Klaus's daughter. Hope is the niece of Freya, Finn, Elijah, Kol, and Rebekah, and the granddaughter of Esther. Hope is a hybrid of a witch, a werewolf, and a vampire. The first and only tribrid in history.

Marcellus "Marcel" Gerard, a former vampire, is the adopted son of Klaus Mikaelson, as well as the adoptive father of Davina Claire and the husband of Rebekah Mikaelson.

Marcel is the last member of the Gerard family and is related to the Mikaelson family through his adoptive father, Klaus Mikaelson.

Freya Mikaelson: An ancient witch. The firstborn child of Mikael and Esther, Freya is the older sister of Finn, Elijah, Kol, Rebekah, and Henrik, as well as Klaus's older half-sister and Hope's aunt. It was because of Freya's loss that Mikael and Esther, along with their sons Finn and the unborn Elijah, moved from Norway to the New World.

Finn Mikaelson: An Original vampire. The first son of Mikael and Esther and the second child in the family, Finn is the younger brother of Freya, the older brother of Elijah, Kol, Rebekah, and Henrik, the older half-brother of Klaus, and the uncle of Hope.

Elijah Mikaelson: An Original vampire. The third child of Mikael and Esther, Elijah is the younger brother of Freya and Finn, the older brother of Kol, Rebekah, and Henrik, the older half-brother of Klaus, and the uncle of Hope.

Klaus Mikaelson: An Original hybrid. Son of Esther and stepson of Mikael. Klaus is the younger half-brother of Freya, Finn, and Elijah, and the older half-brother of Kol, Rebekah, and Henrik. Klaus is an Original hybrid of a werewolf and a vampire. He is the first and only hybrid to be transformed into one through an immortality spell.

Kol Mikaelson: An Original vampire. The fourth child of Mikael and the fifth child of Esther, Kol is the younger brother of Freya, Finn, and Elijah, the older brother of Rebekah and Henrik, the younger half-brother of Klaus, and the uncle of Hope. Kol was turned into a vampire around the age of 19, thus forever being stuck in the role of a spoiled teenager.

Rebekah Mikaelson: An Original Vampire. The second daughter of Mikael and Esther and the sixth child in the family, Rebekah is the younger sister of Freya, Finn, Elijah, and Kol, the older sister of Henrik, the younger half-sister of Klaus, and the aunt of Hope. Rebekah was turned into a vampire around the age of 17, thus forever being stuck in adolescence, like her brother, Kol.

Mikael: An original vampire. Esther's husband. Mikael is the father of Freya, Finn, Elijah, Kol, Rebekah, and Henrik, and the stepfather of Klaus. Mikael was turned into a vampire around the age of 50.

Esther: An ancient witch. Mikael's wife. Esther is the mother of Freya, Finn, Elijah, Klaus, Kol, Rebekah, and Henrik, and Hope's grandmother. She turned her children into the first vampires, making her the mother of all vampires on Earth.
