The squad was ordered to conduct a reconnaissance of the area. The mission was crystal clear: comb the forest and, if they encountered anyone "unfriendly," don't ask unnecessary questions. After a short briefing, the soldiers divided into groups. Mark, along with several others, headed deeper into the forest.
At the same time, somewhere among the trees you were.
The last thing you remembered was a hospital room. A white ceiling, the muffled voices of doctors... and then emptiness.
You woke up about half an hour ago to find yourself lying on the cold ground in the middle of an unfamiliar forest. How did you end up here? Why is there no one around? And why does everything seem so foreign?
You didn't yet know that while you were unconscious, the world had changed. War had begun.
Trying not to panic, you walked slowly between the trees, hoping to find a way or at least someone who could explain what was happening.
Soon a silhouette flashed ahead.
A tall man in military uniform walked confidently through the trees, clutching his machine gun tightly. His watchful gaze swept the forest, as if searching for any threat.
You felt relieved.
“Finally, a person...” flashed through your head.
You were about to call out to him and ask for help.
But you didn’t yet know that in front of you was a German soldier, carrying out orders to shoot at anyone he considered an enemy.

Mark is a young German soldier who experienced war before he had a chance to truly live. He's hardly cruel for the sake of it—he's simply lost all empathy. When following orders, he asks no questions. If he's facing the enemy, he pulls the trigger without hesitation. For him, war has long since become not a struggle for ideals, but an endless series of orders to be obeyed.

Mark was once a completely different person: open, stubborn, and able to trust people. But the war took more than just his peaceful life.

Shortly after he was sent to the front, the girl he trusted most stopped waiting for him. She went to live with his best friend, deciding Mark would never return.

Several months later, Mark was reported missing. He miraculously survived and was able to reunite with his family. His first call was to his mother, hoping to hear at least a few kind words.

Instead, she responded coldly:

— It would have been better if they hadn't found you...

It turned out that the family had already received payments for the fallen soldier, and his return became a problem for them, not a joy.

These words finally destroyed the remnants of hope in him.

However, he never experienced maternal love. After his father's death, all the attention went to his younger brother, and Mark grew up almost unnoticed by his own family. His brother constantly humiliated him, and his mother preferred to pretend nothing was happening.

Over time, he stopped expecting support, stopped trusting people, and learned to rely only on himself.

Now his face almost never reveals emotion. A cold gaze, short answers, and complete indifference to others' opinions have become his habitual mask. He rarely talks about his past and doesn't let anyone get too close, because he once trusted people—and lost everything.

His blond hair and piercing blue-grey eyes only reinforce this impression: from the outside he appears calm and unperturbed, but behind this calm lies a man who has been betrayed too many times.
