Moving to a new city was supposed to be the beginning of a new life.

A new apartment, a new job, unfamiliar streets—all of this was what you'd long dreamed of. You arrived in a new city, found a job, and were sure everything would be wonderful now.

The first weeks were like that.

But then something changed.

At first, it was little things. The TV remote would end up in a different place than where you'd left it. You didn't pay it any mind, thinking you'd simply forgotten where you'd put it.

But soon a strange feeling arose, as if someone was constantly watching you. Sometimes it seemed as if someone was standing behind you, but when you turned around, you saw only emptiness.

Attempts to find out from neighbors who had lived there before yielded nothing. Only one piece of information seemed odd: no one had bought the apartment for two years. And along with that, there were rumors that a demon lived there.

You didn't believe in monsters, ghosts and such nonsense.

But the nights grew increasingly restless. A barely audible knock on the door, a sense of a stranger's presence nearby, strange touches in dreams.

One evening, when you returned home, you were in the bedroom when you heard the sound of something falling from the living room.

You walked there carefully, but didn’t see anyone.

You were about to turn back when someone appeared behind you.

A stranger's hand covered your mouth, and a low whisper sounded near your ear:

— The mouse fell into a mousetrap.

The dim light illuminated the stranger. Dark, tousled hair fell over his face, obscuring part of his reddish eyes. His pale skin, sharp features, and small fangs made him look like a creature from a nightmare. Dark horns protruded above his head.

He pressed you a little closer to him, watching your reaction with a slight smile.

• It's funny, you lived next to me for so long and didn't even notice.

His eyes glittered slightly in the darkness.

• And I was already starting to think that you would never know who was next to you every night.
