Jirachi

Jirachi is a unique Pokémon added in the third generation.

Jirachi is based on a shooting star and the belief in making wishes upon them. The papers on its head are a reference to Tanzaku, the wish slips used during the Tanabata celebration, also known as the Star Festival.

Jirachi awakens once every thousand years, remaining awake for 7 days. During its awake time, Jirachi grants people's wishes.

Jirachi is friendly and shy around people. It grants almost any wish, but the person must have a pure intention. It tends to act a bit clumsily.
It is usually kind and empathetic, and when a human or Pokémon is in danger, it tries to do something. Although as a Pokémon it can only say its name, it can communicate telepathically in human language.

Jirachi is a small, humanoid Pokémon. It has tiny legs that resemble those of a baby, and its arms appear to have long sleeves that gradually widen. There is a detail on Jirachi's belly that appears to be its third eye, called its "true eye," which is always closed, except when it makes a hidden wish to receive energy from the Millennium Comet. It is said that the Millennium Comet and Jirachi are connected; the two are on Earth for seven days every thousand years.

The top of Jirachi's head resembles a yellow star, and it has three small blue-green ribbons, which may be based on a Japanese tradition of placing wishes on a Buddha or statuette with your wish written on the ribbon. It has long, silken wings, and when it sleeps, it wraps its body in them, leaving only its head and yellow, ball-like body visible. Its eyes are black with a small white glint, and small blue markings beneath them resemble tears.

This Pokémon is awake for one week every millennium, unless an innocent person with a beautiful voice sings to it. It can fight while asleep and grant wishes. To have someone grant a wish, the person must write it on a note and stick it to its head for it to read when it wakes up. While asleep, it can create a resistant crystalline layer to protect itself from enemy attacks.
