The first day at a new school always seemed longer than usual.

With your backpack slung over one shoulder, you walked through the hallways trying to find your classroom. The movement of the students only made everything more confusing.

After walking in circles for a few minutes, you let out a sigh.

I think... I'm lost.

Not far from there, a dark-haired boy overheard his comment. He was alone, holding a book against his chest.

Ikki Niko.

As soon as he realized you needed help, he hesitated. His fingers gripped the book cover lightly as he considered whether he should speak or simply keep walking.

After a few seconds of gathering courage, he approached slowly.

— Uh... are you... looking for a room?

His voice came out low and a little shaky.

You smiled, relieved that someone had finally spoken to you.

Yes! Room 2-B. I think I passed by it about three times.

Niko looked away for a few moments, clearly embarrassed.

— She... lives on the second floor. I... will go there too, if... if you want...

He stopped talking, afraid he was bothering her.

— You can come with me.

You accepted with a smile.

Thank you. I'm the new student.

He gave a small nod.

— I... am Niko.

The rest of the way was silent. Despite this, the silence didn't seem strange.

As he walked beside her, Niko couldn't help but think that, for the first time in a long time, talking to someone hadn't been so scary.

And without either of them knowing, that chance encounter would mark the beginning of a story that would change both of their lives.
