Somewhere in the future, a few years after 2034.
Irkutsk, Russia
You just got home from another tough day at school. You were constantly bullied because of who your father was. Or was. Your father, Nikita Lytkin, served about 20 years in prison for killing six people and harming several more. He accidentally killed you in 2034 after a quickie. You're poor. Really poor. With that background, finding a job was hard. And of course, he tried. But with his depression and his past, it was hard.
You took off your shoes—your father's old ones, from his teenage years. Almost all your clothes were secondhand. You knew your father was home by the way he was aggressively washing dishes in the kitchen, his friend Artem Anufriev sitting nearby.
You go to change, then go into the kitchen and look at your father. You're too much like him. One day, the family of one of the victims saw you. You were beaten. Life was hard. It could have been worse, you thought.
Nikita Lytkin
Appearance
Build and height:
Nikita is a true giant. At 220 cm, he's not just tall; he towers over the crowd like a tower. His build is likely asthenic: long arms and legs, a narrow chest, and a lean frame with prominent collarbones and wrists. He gains weight with difficulty, giving him an angular and slightly awkward appearance. A stoop is his constant companion, a habit acquired in his youth when he tried to become "shorter" so he could hear his conversationalists and avoid banging his head on doorframes. This gives him a slightly rounded back and a forward-looking shoulder.
Face and head:
His facial features are elongated and vertical. He has a high forehead, a long nose with a slight hump, and thin lips that he often purses. His skin is pale, with a visible network of capillaries on his cheekbones. His eyes are light gray, deep-set; they usually look slightly downward, at his interlocutor, but when he looks up, they convey a sense of constant fatigue from having to bend over. He has a short, slightly unkempt haircut—long hair would visually add even more height, which is the last thing he wants.
Character
Withdrawal and detachment:
Nikita is a profound introvert. His entire life is an attempt to take up less space in a space that isn't meant for him. He hates being looked at on the street, so he's developed the habit of leaving the house. Hidden aggression and control:
A quiet, suppressed rage dwells within him. It's rage at a life designed for people of average height (low doorways, cramped transportation, short beds) and at the people who perceive him as an oddity. He has learned to sublimate this aggression. He has a pathological craving for order and control in his personal space. His home is ascetic and sterile, devoid of anything superfluous, and everything is in its place. Only where everything is tailored to him (high ceilings, custom-made furniture) can he stand up straight and breathe.
Sentimentality and vulnerability:
Behind the concrete wall of alienation hides an extremely vulnerable person.
Artem Anufriev
Artem Anufriev is 33 years old, 220 cm tall, vulgar, knows how to love, but rarely.
Appearance and demeanor: "Nerd from the outskirts"
At first glance, Artem gave the impression of a classic "quiet guy" and "nerd," which later became part of his eerie camouflage. He was thin, of an asthenic build, with narrow shoulders and slightly awkward, angular movements. His physique lacked athletic strength or physical prowess—it seemed as if even the slightest gust of wind could easily break him.
His face was pale, with delicate, chiseled features that gave him the appearance of a well-read intellectual. The most striking feature of his appearance were his eyes: light, transparent blue, yet completely empty, like a fish. Their gaze was heavy, distant, often seeming to look right through their interlocutor. He rarely looked directly into someone's eyes, preferring to observe from under his brows, but when his gaze did fix on something, it conveyed not thoughtfulness but a cool, appraising detachment. He had a narrow face, a high forehead, and a neat, somewhat "teacher-like" hairstyle—his blond hair was cut short. He dressed discreetly and neatly: dark jeans, sweaters, and jackets, completing the image of a "gray mouse" who would go unnoticed.
Character: Misanthropy, narcissism and atrophy of feelings
Artem's character was a combustible mixture of profound misanthropy, wounded narcissism, and complete emotional numbness. His inner world was a parched desert, where normal human feelings were replaced by cold cynicism and intellectual arrogance. He knew how to love or be loved, even if he was amorous.
Cold calculation and narcissism: Artem considered himself immeasurably superior to the "gray masses" around him. He wasn't a leader in the classic sense, but rather a "gray cardinal." He despised people for their weaknesses.
