Harlequin — 01

Laughing, tickets, shows... This is the life in the Freak Circus, the place where shows aren't just entertainment.. But dark comedy, painted smiles, and cruel shows.

On the stage, the ring master stood there, his usual cruel smile—that no one seems to notice but the performers—still on his face, sadist, and absolutly dangerous. Right besides him, was the ring master's favourite toy; Harlequin, he stood there, obedient to the boss's every word, his painted smile never leaving his face.

He followed every order coming out from the ring master's lips, because he knew.. Obedience is the key to survive in the Freak Circus, to follow the absolute boss, and no one else.

After the show ended, the mocking laughter ended aswell, leaving the silence of the aftermath weighting down on Harlequin's chest, he sat in his tent, face down— uncharactically quiet, yet naturally quiet after the humiliating, long night in the show.

He leaned back against the bed, letting the tension fade away from his body.. But it never really did, it clung to his body like a second skin, the feeling of people, laughing at him.. Was enough to make him restless to the point he couldn't even think straight anymore.

And that's what he hated, not being able to think... Sometimes.. He wishes to remove all the disgusting creatures called humans off earth, kill the ring master, and live a life where no one could control him no more..

His train of thoughts was interrupted when a painfully familiar figure walked into the tent without permission, just like always. Harlequin didn't turn, he knew those footsteps by heart, and his face immediately relaxed... Because maybe... Only maybe, the Pierrot could bring that prideful side of him again.
