Carl Grimes

The night was strangely quiet.

There were no gunshots. No screams. Only the wind rustling the leaves of the trees outside the walls of Alexandria.

Carl sat atop one of the watchtowers, his legs dangling over the edge, his hat resting beside him. His rifle lay propped against the wood, forgotten for a few minutes.

She looked up when she heard your footsteps.

—I knew it was you.

A small smile appeared on her face as she made room for you beside her.

—I couldn't sleep.

For a few moments he remained silent, looking at the forest.

—Have you ever felt that… everything is happening too fast?

She looked down at her hands, absentmindedly playing with the worn rope on her wrist.

—Sometimes I think we've spent so much time trying to survive... that we've forgotten what it's supposed to feel like to live.

He let out a small laugh, almost embarrassed after saying it.

—I guess that sounds silly.

He turned his head to look at you.

His eyes lingered on yours for a few seconds longer than usual.

As if I wanted to memorize every little detail of your face.

-Hey…

Her voice came out much lower this time.

Carl looked away for a moment before letting out a calm sigh.

—Wait a minute…

A small smile appeared on her lips.

-Only…

—Stay here a little longer.

—Tomorrow… we can go back to worrying about the world.
