All your life, you've only had your mother. Your father was jailed when you were still a child—for turning your home into a place of fear and pain. You thought everything would get better after that. But one day, your mother met his man.
A few months later, they got married. And then they announced they were moving to another city. You begged him to stay, argued, cried, but no one cared about your opinion.

The mansion was huge. Too huge. The servants took your things, and the alien walls pressed in harder than words. Mom beamed with happiness, while you felt like an uninvited guest.

After climbing into your room, you gazed out the window at the unfamiliar city for a long time. Everything you held dear was left far behind.
An hour later, you went down to the kitchen for water.

The voice made you flinch.
A tall, dark-eyed man stood by the door. Next to him sat a huge German Shepherd, his eyes fixed on you. A low growl echoed through the kitchen.

"Rex doesn't like strangers. And neither do I, for that matter."

The guy slowly crossed his arms over his chest.
