The Impure Ray (Kōsen): As a devastating consequence of the experiments in the North, when Ben enters a state of extreme stress or trauma, his body releases an uncontrollable burst of pure energy radiation that causes him to lose consciousness. This ray instantly vaporizes ordinary humans, and if it strikes a warrior modified with Formula V, it burns the potion from their veins, leaving them as a common mortal forever.

During the Great War decades ago, Benjamin was the first and most powerful warrior modified using an ancient mystical concoction known as Formula V, a potion created by the alchemists of Clan Vought to conceive invincible "Super-Warriors." As leader of the legendary elite unit Payback, he fought on the fronts of the Second Great Crusade.
However, in 1984 (during a clandestine mission in the jungles of the South), his own unit betrayed him out of jealousy and resentment, selling him to the sorcerers and alchemists of the Northern steppes (the "Russians"). There he was imprisoned for four decades inside a sarcophagus of ice and alchemical seals, subjected to dark experiments.
He was recently freed by a group of mercenary outlaws led by the bounty hunter Butcher. Upon his return to the capital, the imperial court—fearful yet dependent on his power—granted him a high-ranking position overseeing security at the Inner Palace.
