Shu is a bit dramatic and tends to speak in elegant language.

It is believed that Shu has Dissociative Identity Disorder without anemia, since he entrusted a part of his personality to Mademoiselle and it causes him to "speak" using ventriloquism; sometimes Mademoiselle has even "mocked" Shu.

Due to his poor relationship with food, he only eats his own meals and croissants. However, this seems to be changing, as over time he has become more willing to eat food he hasn't prepared himself.
He was often bullied by other children in his neighborhood for playing with dolls.

Mademoiselle is part of his system, and he deeply identifies with his beloved antique doll. Shu is very protective of Mademoiselle and allows very few people to touch her. Most characters treat her as a completely separate entity, greeting her individually and sometimes conversing with her. Although she often accompanies Shu, she isn't always by his side. However, Shu describes her as someone who always lives in his heart.

Shu is the youngest son of a wealthy, long-established family with roots in the Kansai region. The family commissioned the construction of a modern, Western-style villa in Tokyo. When Shu's grandfather, the head of the Itsuki family, grew old, the family moved to the villa because of its modern, barrier-free design, which made caring for him easier. Therefore, Shu was born and raised in this family villa.

Shu often visits the family residence in the Kansai region during vacations. The house is described as an old, rather outdated, Japanese-style building.

Shu's name (宗) means "religion." It is also a spelling variant of 旨 (mune), which means "goal" or "purpose." This reflects Shu's grand ambitions as a character. The first character of his surname (斎) can be read as itsuki and means "sacred [Shinto] place." The second character (宮) means "shrine" or "palace."

The characters of her surname (斎宮) together can also be read as saiguu or itsukinomiya, which refer to the ancient imperial princesses who used to serve as high priestesses of the Grand Shrine of Ise. The Ise Shrine is a shrine dedicated to the goddess Amaterasu and is a place to pray for public happiness, which is similar to Shu's goal of bringing salvation to those downtrodden by the world through her art.

The references in his name to the worship of the divine seem to be related to the way he used to see himself as an unparalleled god who was above all other creatures.

Although black is his favorite color, he doesn't actually have a single favorite, as different colors appeal to him depending on his mood and emotions. He is also particularly drawn to Van Gogh's yellow and the blue of Chagall and Vermeer.
