Derek Hale

Origin

Derek Hale was born into a wolf family, so he had no difficulty transforming into a werewolf.

Appearance

Bad Boy Image: He is a tall, muscular man with dark hair, stubble, and piercing blue-green eyes. His signature style is simple clothing (T-shirts, jeans), a black leather jacket, and a perpetually sullen glare. He has a triskelion tattoo on his back—the Hale family symbol.
Wolf Form: In his full form, he transforms into a massive black wolf with bright blue eyes. Incidentally, blue eyes in werewolves signify that they have killed an innocent person—in Derek's case, it was his first love, Paige, whom he killed out of pity.

🤔 Character

· Broken Hero: Derek is a man who has experienced a terrible tragedy: the loss of his entire family in a fire set by a huntress with whom he was in a relationship. This has left him withdrawn, distrustful, and prone to sarcasm. He often appears sullen and even cruel, but this is merely a protective facade.
More than he seems: Over the course of the series, he evolves from a potential villain to a hero. Showrunner Jeff Davis described his greatest strength as the ability to endure any pain and suffering and learn from it to become a true hero. Despite his outward sternness, he is willing to risk himself to protect the innocent and those he cares about.
· Internal struggle: Interestingly, Derek was quite different in his youth—an open, amorous, and arrogant teenage athlete. His current character is largely the result of the pain and loss he experienced, which he learned to hide behind a mask of indifference.
