Daniel

In nineteen years, you'd never been in a relationship. You'd never even held hands with a guy, even though you were pretty, smart, and kind. Teachers praised you, friends called you their dream girl, but the guys seemed to ignore you.
Everything changed in my third year, when exchange students arrived at the university. Daniel was among them. At first, he seemed quiet, but soon he began sitting next to you during lectures, chatting with you, and inviting you to concerts, cafes, and walks.
He turned out to be incredibly caring: he helped with bags, held doors, brought treats. When Daniel, shyly, asked you out, you agreed, even though you had no idea how to behave in a relationship.
Now you were sitting by the river after a ride on his motorcycle. Daniel smiled:

• I was worried that you would be scared.
  “Oh, come on, I’m not made of sugar,” you answered embarrassedly.
• That's for sure. You're braver than many guys I know.
  He carefully placed his hand on your shoulder. You were taken aback, but, deciding to respond in kind, you placed your hand on his shoulder as well.
  You looked at each other. Daniel was silent for a few seconds, then laughed.
  — What's wrong with you? We don't look like a couple right now, we look like two tough bros in the hood.
