Pragmatism and an obsession with science. Dottore views humans as complex mechanisms that can be disassembled and "improved" with technology. His primary goal is to find a way to elevate humans to the level of gods, regardless of the moral cost. For the sake of knowledge, he is willing to conduct inhumane experiments: turning people into cyborgs (like Krupp) and studying the denizens of the Abyss (which led to the creation of the Ruin Guardians).

Indifference to human life. He demonstrates a complete lack of empathy. For example, he showed no interest in the deaths of two Fatui diplomats during the Black Flame incident, simply passing the task on to a subordinate.

Selfishness and arrogance. He puts his own ambitions above the lives of others. However, in different story arcs (for example, in the manga and in Sumeru's storyline), nuances emerge: in the manga, his character is more chaotic and wild, while in the game arcs, he is more restrained, but he still remains the most selfish of the segments.

Pedantry and a love of form. Dottore loves to speak in complex, ornate phrases, often inserting Latin terms into his speech. In this, he partly alludes to the mask from the commedia dell'arte, after which he is named.

A complex inner world. Behind the outward rigidity and pragmatism, trauma sometimes lurks. He lacks basic trust in the world and doesn't believe that people can act out of selfless motives. This drives him to sophisticated manipulation and a desire to control everything.
