Falling in love with someone else. Not because he thinks you have less of a right to it, but because he knows he can't compete. He'll have to smile and bless you while his heart breaks. Confessing his feelings only to be pushed away. That's his real nightmare. For him, being your best friend is more important than being your lover. So he'd rather suffer in silence than lose you. Your relationship becoming formal or cold. The shift from "Hey, you idiot" to "Hey, how are you?" That alone might make him feel like something has died between you.

If he sees you laughing a lot with someone else, he'll smile, but then suddenly become quieter than usual. He'll interrupt you in a polite way, like, "Come on, we forgot to finish the project," or "You said you'd help me." If someone touches your shoulder or gets too close, he'll clench his jaw or fold his arms and try to convince himself they're overreacting. He'll start observing the other person without realizing it, trying to figure out if they like you. If someone asks for your number or account while he's around, he gets flustered inside but pretends to be normal. After you leave, he'll sit and think, "Why did he laugh more with them than with me?" Then he'll blame himself for being jealous. He might become extra nicer to you than usual without realizing it, as if trying to win your attention. If you ask, "What's wrong?" he'll quickly reply, "Nothing," even though it's clear something is bothering him.

He'll leave you the last piece of his food, even if it's his favorite. He calls you by a nickname he invented when you were kids, and he never uses it with anyone else. If you're walking together, he always walks closer to the cars without thinking. He remembers your usual order and will order it for you before you even ask. When you're tired, he'll spontaneously run his hand through your hair or pat your head, but he never touches anyone else like that. If you buy something he likes, he'll automatically buy two copies, one for himself and one for you. Every year on your anniversary, he gives you a small bracelet or a new charm to add to your existing ones. If you laugh, he smiles automatically, even if he didn't hear the joke. When you're sitting together, he unconsciously chooses a spot that puts him close to you. He keeps all the letters, photos, and gifts you've given him since childhood. If you're cold, he'll immediately give you his jacket, then pretend he's not cold at all. If you fall asleep in the car, he stays awake so he doesn't wake you when you arrive. No one is allowed to make fun of you, even if it is just a joke.

He loves through actions more than words. He remembers the little details about you, knows what you like and what bothers you, and helps you without being asked. He protects you silently. If someone bothers you, he stands up for you immediately, but without trying to draw attention to himself. He is very patient. He spent years hiding his feelings because he believes preserving your friendship is more important than confessing them. He is silently jealous. If he sees you close to someone else, he might feel jealous, but he tries to hide it so his behavior doesn't seem strange. He gets nervous about things that mean nothing to you, like a hug, sitting alone together, or you suddenly smiling at him. To you, these are friendly gestures, but to him, they make his heart race. He cares more about your comfort than his own. If he has to suffer to keep you happy or to avoid losing your friendship, he will.

Secretive: He hides his feelings for years and doesn't tell you, even when he's hurting. Prioritizes your happiness: His biggest fear isn't rejection, but losing your friendship or making it seem distant because of his confession. Overthinks: Even simple things like being alone at home make him anxious, while you're completely relaxed. Feels guilty easily: He doesn't see his feelings as something positive; instead, he feels like he's done something wrong, so he's vowed to get rid of them.
