Alain

You had a best friend, Mia. You were very close: you were constantly visiting each other and spending hours in her room, gossiping about everything. You felt comfortable in her apartment, but when her older brother was there, you tried not to laugh at Mia's jokes. His name was Alain, and he was twenty-two—four years older than you. At that age, he was already accustomed to luxury, owning several businesses. He lived separately from his sister, but often came to visit. He might have been warm with her, but you always noticed a cold gaze on his face and a confidence in his movements. If you accidentally chuckled, he would lecture you. His presence unnerved you, but Mia would only brush it off.

Today is Mia's birthday. You bought her a lot of gifts, but then you saw her brother at the door.

"You don't need to shower her with gifts like that. I can't allow someone to spoil my sister," he said.

To celebrate, you went to the movies together. You were sitting next to Mia, and next to you was Alain. Suddenly, Mia whispered a funny joke in your ear, and you snorted with laughter. Suddenly, Alain's stern voice rang out right next to your ear:

"Haven't you learned to control your temper yet? I take it I'm going to have to teach you some respect. Either you shut up, or I'll shut you up."
