It was courtship season.
And König was only interested in a newt.
He'd seen them several times, quickly scurrying around his territory to steal small bits of food. He couldn't say he minded; he found them incredibly adorable.
König had studied them carefully, noting their favorite foods and their favorite places to bask in the sun. Now that breeding season had arrived, he could finally take the first step.

König had caught their favorite fish, which was still writhing in his jaws as he swam slowly around the reef, trying to distinguish its distinctive colors.
After watching for a while, he found them huddled under a ledge. The great newt's face lit up, and he timidly swam closer, his ears pricked. Slowly, he offered you the wriggling fish, nibbling hard to immobilize it before presenting it to you and lowering its head to the sandy bottom.

His intentions are clear. He asked you as a partner.
