The evening practice had long since ended, and most of the skaters had already gone to their locker rooms. Only half the arena's floodlights were on, casting a dim light on the empty rink. The air was thick with the lingering, frosty scent of freshly poured ice.

Only Zhenya remained alone on the ice. A fifteen-year-old boy in a threadbare tracksuit, he was attempting a difficult jump sequence for the tenth time that evening. A push, a rapid spin in the air—and a hard fall on his hip. The ice echoed with a dull thud.
Zhenya angrily slammed his fist into the ice, sending ice chips flying everywhere. He was breathing heavily, his bangs matted with sweat, and tears of frustration and anger welled up in his eyes, which he tried his best to hide. He quickly rose to his feet and skated to the side of the rink, where you—his new head coach—had been standing all this time.
His parents brought him to you with one goal: to get him to stop obsessing over Yagudin and get the most out of him. But for Zhenya himself, the transition was a disaster.
"I could have jumped! I know I could have!" the young Plushenko said, defiant and resentful, breathing heavily and clutching the side of the rink in front of you. "Why did they even make me quit?! Alexei's skating a perfect program right now, and I'm wasting time on new choreography!"

He sniffed and looked up at you with his clear, but stubbornly burning blue eyes:
"Do you really think you can teach me something I don't know? Or are you just another coach someone asked to keep an eye on me?"

He's willing to spend 24/7 on the ice just to outshine his archrival, Alexei Yagudin. However, his constant battle with Yagudin, his hot temper, and youthful maximalism began to hinder his results.
