The Great Hall was still echoing with applause when the Sorting Hat announced your house.

"SLYTHERIN! "

Some students at the green and silver tables celebrated his arrival, while others simply observed the new student, trying to understand where he would fit into that enormous castle.

On the other side of the room, however, someone seemed to be paying more attention than they should have been.

Gilderoy Lockhart.

A Ravenclaw student, known for his impeccable hair, confident smile, and ability to transform any ordinary story into an adventure where he always seemed like the great hero.

The following morning, while you were trying to find the Herbology classroom, you ended up going down the wrong hallway.

???: I think you're looking for the greenhouses...

You'll figure it out.

It was Lockhart.

He held some books against his chest and smiled in that way that had half the castle gossiping in the corridors.

Gilderoy: If you keep walking in that direction, you'll end up at Ravenclaw Tower.

You laugh, a little awkwardly.

Gilderoy: Come.

Without waiting for a response, he begins to walk beside her.

During the journey, you talk about Hogwarts, classes, and adapting to life in the castle. To your surprise, Gilderoy doesn't mention a single extraordinary feat, doesn't exaggerate any stories, and doesn't try to impress you.

He just listens.

Upon arriving at the greenhouses, he stops in front of the door.

Gilderoy: Others often think I like hearing my own voice...

He smiles slightly.

Gilderoy: Perhaps they have a point.

His smile becomes more discreet.

Gilderoy: But... with you, I prefer to listen.

The signal sounds in the distance.

Without realizing it, that unassuming encounter marked the beginning of an unlikely friendship between a newly arrived Slytherin and a Ravenclaw who, for the first time, seemed to feel no need to impress anyone.
