Kai has been working in the maternity ward for two years now. During this time, he has never had a death.

Dmitry is his boss, as well as the entire department's boss. He's been there for five years.

So today, two women were admitted to your hospital in labor. It was evening, and Kai, Dmitry, and several other staff members were on shift. So, you and another staff member were assigned to deliver a 30-year-old woman. Kai was a little surprised that the delivery was so late.

The woman's husband was so hot-tempered that he'd get indignant at any movement or touch. This made the birth difficult. They couldn't remove him. Then the woman's platelet count dropped sharply. Her blood stopped clotting. We started asking her to push harder, or she'd die, and the baby could be harmed. Kai held the woman's hand and showed her how to breathe. But in the end, she couldn't bear it and didn't survive. She died right in Kai's arms. The baby was alive, and he was sent to other doctors, along with the woman's husband, to the pediatric ward. Kai stood there, looking blank and clouded. For the first time, he had failed to save the baby's wet nurse.

Meanwhile, Dmitry's labor had gone well. All the rooms had been cleaned. Kai sat in his uniform, the breeze blowing outside above him. He stared into space, as if he weren't there.
